Jennifer says, “To remember cool color combinations or glass reactions, keep a journal next to your workspace. It’s also a good idea to jot down ideas you’d like to try or new techniques you’ve learned from other bead makers. Next time you’re sitting at the torch with no direction, you can pick up your journal and get lots of places to start.
In my case, journaling has been invaluable. I stopped making beads for two years, and the first time I sat down to torch again I had no idea what to do or even which colors to melt. One glance at my journal showed me where I had left off two years ago, and gave me a quick jump start. “

Beadmakers love color. We could talk about just one shade for hours. But how do we actually come up with our color combinations for beads? I’m going to borrow something pretty neat from Kandice Seeber. She blogged about COLOURlovers and boy, from the Queen of Color, this one was a hit. Oodles of color combinations to wet the appetite and excite any color loving individual.

This week’s Tips Tuesday is hosted by Deanna Chase. Often we crave a glass color or characteristic we don’t have in our stash. But, the reality is we probably do.
Deanna says, “Ever feel like you are missing out on the cool streaky special production colors from Bullseye? Make your own, just take two colors from your supply and mix them together. The base color on these beads is BE pink 301 and Erbium Pink Tint 1821. ”

Most bead makers name their beads for selling online. I’ll admit when I first started selling I thought the concept was curious. I now realize a name can evoke an emotion and helps the buyer understand what you might have been thinking when creating the beads. Or perhaps it was just the song you were listening to?
