Tips Tuesday – More about Color

Beadmakers love color.  We could talk about just one shade for hours.  But how do we actually come up with our color combinations for beads?  I’m going to borrow something pretty neat from Kandice Seeber.  She blogged about  COLOURlovers and boy, from the Queen of Color, this one was a hit.  Oodles of color combinations to wet the appetite and excite any color loving individual.

Flaming Hot members are encouraged to post a tip within this general theme of finding color combinations.

A number of my color combos come from nature pictures. I don’t do the realistic beads- but my organics are often based on things like a paraglider ( http://photography.nationalgeographic.com/photography/photo-of-the-day/tenere-desert-paraglider.html ) Hmmm- maybe CIM khaki with red copper green and a dark trans brown etched?

Excuse me while I go get the torch ready

    Color My World….

I love color. It is what has drawn me into this world of glass creation. For me, my inspiration can come from a painting….

I grab alot of my color ideas from stuff I see while travelling, I finally started jotting things down! When stumped I use the Color Harmony Workbook, best color book I’ve ever seen!

I love to mix colors up and try to put unusual color combos together. The biggest roadblock is the limited color choices in glass. Even though I often mix my own glass colors, sometimes it is hard to get the perfect color I am after. I love to experiment.

I don’t think I’m great at color combining and look for help everywhere. My customers think I have a great sense of color – so I hide it well,

Fabrics! I spend a lot of time looking at fabrics for bags and projects, and I love to try to recreate fabric color combinations. Otherwise, I’m in the zone just grabbing something bright and trying not to put two together that REALLY don’t go…lol!

Sometimes I come up with the best color combinations when I’m not thinking, not TRYING to come up with a great combination!

Where do my color combo’s come from? Nature…a great fabric…pair of pant’s…or outfit that I need something to match?….a feeling…holiday’s…my personal preference mostly.
